Keeping non-profits funded during Covid-19 with Smarter Good

Role: Proposal and Communications Writer

When Covid-19 became a global reality in early 2020, non-profits needed to quickly pivot from their regular program offerings to making sure their beneficiaries and staff had access to food, water, medical and sanitary supplies, and a safe place to take shelter. At the time, I was a writer for Smarter Good, a social enterprise that helped non-profits secure funding.

To support our non-profit partners’ emergency efforts, I crafted grant proposals and donor communications that showed the new realities and levels of complexity faced by non-profits and their communities. I developed new messaging that urged foundations to grant funds even when the request did not necessarily align with their regular eligibility criteria.

Collectively, the proposals and communications I wrote for Smarter Good secured over $2.5 million in funding. Click here to view an annual report I drafted for one of grant awardees.

Pages from a annual report I wrote that detailed the successes and challenges that one partner organization faced during the first turbulent year of the pandemic. Click here to view the report.
